about
March 26th 2019: Paul gave us the keys to the Thirroul Railway Institute Hall and told us to lock up when we left. He hand wrote me a receipt for the hall hire. We stopped the clock because it was ticking. We set up one microphone in the middle of the room, surrounded by several framed photographs of politicians, timing our takes in between passing trains and announcements advising us to stay behind the yellow line. Filmed by Tim Winterflood and recorded live by Ben Davies (SilverSound RecordingStudio) this is a song I wrote a few years ago called All In The Timing. I wrote it for a songwriting competition. It didn't win, but hopefully It wins with you. Send it to the one who got away x
lyrics
It never worked for us
You caught the train, I caught the bus
And whenever our paths crossed
One of us was always lost
You always left the way you came
I always took the road untamed
And anyone who knew the two of us would tell you just the same
They's say it's all in the timing my dear
I can't make you stay if you don't want to be here
It's all in the timing my dear
And only when I push you away do you want to be near
It never worked and I'll tell you why
You felt the lows when I was high
And when I gave up you would try
To bring this back to life
You always said just what you meant
I know my truth was often bent
And anyone who knew the two of us would tell you we were better of as friends
But I know it's all in the timing my dear
I can't make you stay if you don't want to be here
It's all in the timing my dear
And only when I cut out my tongue do you lend me your ears
You said you didn't have the time
I said I do, it's after nine
And you should go
'Cause if you don't
Anyone who knows us
Knows that it's all in the timing my dear
I can't make you stay if you don't want to be here
It's all in the timing my dear
And only when I push you away do you want to be near
